Jesus has begun His earthly ministry preaching in the Northern part of Israel. Many have come to see Him, experience His teaching, and bring their loved one who need healing. Jesus has been preaching and ministering to the crowds. He sees the great crowds forming and decides to impart fresh Spiritual Truth. He sets down on a mountain side and preaches faithfully. The first part of the sermon is what we call the Beatitudes. He describes what a disciple of Christ would look like and gives them a new identity.
